Committee 2010 - As re-elected by the playing membership at the Annual General Meeting held on Sunday, 14th March, 2010

Director of Music: Clive Rickards

Clive began violin with Dr. E.M. Emott-Allen at the age of 7. As a budding 11 year old violinist, he earned his first fee in a radio broadcast starring the famous comedian Jimmy Clitheroe. He studied composition and arranging with Sam B. Wood, and conducting (Leeds Concert Orchestra and Hammonds Sauce Works Band) under the watchful eye of Fred Hayes of the Hallé. Qualifying as an instrumental music teacher, at Trent Park, and graduating with a B.Ed. (Hons), he moved on to study for a higher degree at London University where he was awarded his MA. Violin studies continued with Emanuel Hurwitz, and on courses with Suzuki, Paul Roland, and Eduard Melkus.

Two years playing in the resident trio at the Ilkley Moor Hotel came to an end when it burnt down. Moving into management, he became Classical Recording Manager for ARC, and has produced records with many major artistes, and orchestras including the RPO, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the Northern Sinfonia of England. He held a four year contract, sponsored by HSBC, conducting music theatre productions at the Golden Lane Theatre in the Barbican. On moving into teaching he became Head of Instrumental Music at Howell’s School, and has also taught violin as an itinerant instructor for local authority music services in Scotland, England and the Isle of Wight. It was whilst living in Kirkcaldy and becoming friends with one of Jimmy Shand’s pianists that he became interested in Scottish Music. On retiring from teaching he became a trustee director of the Portico Theatre Trust, still teaches a select few students, and continues composing and arranging. Recent performances include the incidental music for Twelfth Night and The Crucible string quartet. He has arranged music for, and directed the Scottish Fiddlers, on and off, since its foundation.

President: George Reid

George - an Aberdonian, is a founding member of the Isle of Wight Scottish Fiddlers. He continues to play on a regular basis as well as playing an active role in the IWSF management.

Technical Director: Peter Joyce

Peter is the ‘behind the scenes’ man who is responsible for all the lifting, shifting and setting-up requirements of the IWSF. Peter is not a musician - he leaves that to his son Alasdair who plays the violin.
