13/11/2009 - CONCERT FOR UGANDA

Friday 13th November saw the IWSF playing to a very receptive audience at the Shanklin United Reformed Church. The retiring collection from this Concert raised over £150 towards the Church's chosen Charity - the building of a new block of School rooms in the village of Kalasa (A village about an hour's drive north of Kampala). The IWSF thanks go out to the Rev Brian Harley for the invitation to help with this important Charity fund raising event.

17/10/2009 - A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

George's 84th birthday celebrations at East Dene Bonchurch were a great success. The IW Scottish Fiddlers were delighted to host a most enjoyable concert. The A Capella Fellas were in fine voice and hugely entertaining, as ever (George is justifiably very proud of his son David). Thanks too to all soloists (Chris, Gillian, Harvie, Margaret, and Michael) who helped to make this a truly memorable occasion. Jim had us all on the verge of tears, with his moving tribute to his father. Bob and Laurie, all the way from Texas (Jim's neighbours) presented George with the ceremonial flag of Texas. Bob gave us an enthralling account of its symbolism and a real feeling of the pride Texans have in their 'nation'.

Throughout many years of IW Scottish Fiddling, our breaks in rehearsals have become legendary for the scones, cakes, and countless other goodies provided by Jean and her crew. But on this occasion Jean was banned from the kitchens. "How did you manage to keep her out of the kitchen and dining room" Chris asked Jean and George's daughter, Lyn. "Well" replied Lyn "I had a very good teacher". What a wonderful example the whole of the Reid extended family is.

It was great too, to see George feeling well enough to join in on the fiddle for the Gay Gordons. And Jean danced like a 20 year old too!

George had asked for donations to MacMillan Nurses in lieu of birthday presents, and even though I forgot to mention the purpose and wherabouts of the collection bucket, £402 found its way in there!

Thanks to all performers, friends and family for a night to remember. Let's do it every year George!

26/8/2009 - MORE DONATION THANKS

Many thanks to Shuna Walsh for yet another donation to help with the Scottish Fiddlers running costs. Her late husband, Brian was a long standing and much loved member of the Scottish Fiddlers. In spite of declining health he continued playing with us regularly until shortly before his death in 2007.

10/4/09

The Niton concert raised £250 for the 'slow pot' appeal, and the Newchurch concert raised £157.88 for the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline.

18/12/2008 - MORE DONATION THANKS

The IWSF would like to express its most grateful thanks to Penny Cavendish for her kind donation to the group's funds. This will be invested along with other IWSF monies and used to support future capital project outlays. Thank you again Penny for your kind thoughts and support.

28/04/2008 - MORE DONATION THANKS

The IWSF would like to express its most grateful thanks to Shuna Walsh for her most unexpected donation on 25th April to the group in respect of the memory of her late husband Brian. Brian had been a long standing stalwart of the IWSF ever since his work brought him to the Isle of Wight. Following his retirement from the now BAE SYSTEMS at Cowes, Brian continued to regularly play up until shortly before his death in the middle of 2007. He continues to be very much missed by his friends in the 'Fiddlers. Thank you once again Shuna.

21/04/2008 - DONATION THANKS

The Scottish Fiddlers would like to extend a huge 'thank you' to the Sisters of Mercy Community Fund for their recent, extremely generous donation of £1000 towards the IWSF, for which we are all very appreciative. Although not confirmed as yet, the Fiddlers plan to put part of the donation towards purchasing a new Yamaha P85 Stage Piano, for concerts where a suitable piano is not available for use.

POST DONATION UPDATE 1:
The Scottish Fiddlers are now the proud possessors of a brand new electronic piano that can be transported to  concert venues that are unable to provide a suitable piano. Many thanks again go out to the Sisters of Mercy for the donation that made this possible.

POST DONATION UPDATE 2:
The Sisters of Mercy Community Fund has also enabled the Scottish Fiddlers to purchase a combo amp.No, we ain't rockin' yet, it's just that the digital piano's inbuilt amplification proved not to be up to the job in larger venues.

In other news - all the music, for all instruments, for all current IWSF volumes, is now (finally!) ready to be downloaded from the Music section of the website, now with instructions on how to download them. And just to reiterate, the Photo Album page contains all the photos from the IWSF's history of concerts and events, for your viewing pleasure!

15/07/2007 - BRIAN WALSH

We would like to extend a huge thanks to all the Fiddlers who represented the band at the recent Funeral of Brian Walsh. As many of you will be aware, Brian was a dedicated member of the Scottish Fiddlers who attended rehearsals and concerts religiously, right up until very shortly before his passing, and he will be sadly missed by all associated with the Fiddlers.
